Afroeurope is the future
In Johnny Pitts' Afroeuropean, we see a new multiracial class in formation. This new Europe - Afroeurope, Muslim Europe, World Europe - shows the possibilities of a continental wide solidarity between the oppressed, the dispossessed, the mustadaefeen of Paris, Warsaw and Berlin.
This new class is immiserated, decimated by the Black Mediterranean, crushed by capital and structural racism. It could not be further from victory, from power.
And yet to some, Afroeurope has already conquered. In the fascist imagination, migrants have seized 'no-go' areas, Muslim mobs dictate the agenda on Palestine, London is under occupation every fortnight, Parliament is brow-beaten by extremists.
These are the hallucinations of the petty bourgeoisie, aided and abetted by furrow-browed middle class journalists and sneering machine politicians.
And yet these are the fanatics that must be appeased according to A Nation of Shopkeepers by Dan Evans. His diagnosis of the problem is useful - the rise to dominance in Britain of the petty bourgeois: the self-employed, the small business owner, the landlord. Yet its prescription is fatal. No alliance between the multiracial proletariat and the petty bourgeois is possible.
A conflict is brewing. It will be between the owners of capital, the wielders of political and ideological power on the one hand; and an insurgent, desperate class of the dispossessed on the other. The petty bourgeois will be caught in the middle, and torn asunder.
Afroeurope is the future, a future for us to win.
